Our next auction: ‘Old books for a newfangled new year,’ is a sale that is set to inspire you to collect, educate and grow. We have a wide range of subjects including Aboriginal rights and voice,  Australia Colonial works, Natural History books, Fishing and Game, Exploration and some Japanese books.

There are over fifty books on fishing including trout fishing, fly-fishing, rock fishing and other types of angling. Some of the stand out are: Lot 36 Goodradigbee River Trout;  Lot 23 Cameron The Fisherman; Lot 25 Welsby’s Schnappering 1905 and Lot 2 Ballarat Fly Fishing. We also have a rare 1893 The Great Barrier Reef publication Lot 415

If fish aren’t your thing we also have about a dozen good bird books including Lot 425 Birds India Burma Ceylon, Lot 417 Bird bibliography Sitwell and Lot 408 North’s Nests and Eggs 1901.

We have over 100 items on Australian History including a Colonial Australian manuscript, books and reports books on exploration. Including: An important handwritten document dated July 1838 ordering that no criminal be allowed to work in the justice system as well as further points about documenting transported prisoners to check backgrounds. (Lot 166); and Lot 144 White’s Journal and Lot 141 Burke and Wills Relief Expedition.

There are 12 Japanese books including an absolutely stunning Japanese Crime fiction book Lot 274.

We have over 20 items on the Aboriginal Australians. Including: Lot 182 A document Australian Aboriginal League who have been fighting for Aboriginal people’s rights since 1933; AND  A large collection of exhibition displays and illustrations from the estate of Keith Vincent Smith. He was a curator and historian who specialized in Eora people, the Aboriginal people of the coastal area in and around Sydney. A life’s work encapsulated. (Lot 456)

The auction will be on Monday the 16th of January 2023 and will start at 12 noon. The auction will be held in the room, but will also be broadcast live for those of you who cant attend.
