The highlight of the sale is Ulysses by James Joyce Published in London by John Lane The Bodley Head This Edition published 1936. Limited to 1000 copies. Number 566 in an edition of 900 copies on Japon Vellum paper bound in linen buckram unsigned. This copy is in a dustwrapper. The book and wrapper are in near mint condition. The front flap of the wrapper has a small hole where the price has been removed. On the front and rear endpapers is some pale offsetting.
The top edge is gilt. The spine of the dustwrapper has a decoration in green by Eric Gill and the front board has a similar decoration in gilt. No better copy of this edition exists. It is the first edition published in the UK. One of the most important works of twentieth century fiction See number 23 in Slocum and Cahoon A Bibliography of James Joyce. We also have a poor-ish copy of the eighth edition published 1930 in Paris by Shakespeare and Company.

We have two very good Baldwin Spencer titles both in dustwrapper : The Arunta and Wanderings in Wild Australia; the first trade edition of Seven Pillars of Wisdom in dustwrapper and in very good condition.
We all need direction
1777 Forster’s Voyage with Cook is another important book in the sale. There are lots of local street directories and maps and guides as well as trade catalogues.
Delights
One item which delighted me is the signed copy of Walter Lindrum’s book Billiards and Snooker. Lindrum of course is an icon of Australian sporting history.
